Definitions
Cargo Aircraft Only – These packages cannot fly on a regular passenger aircraft. This means that once dropped off, we will hold them until we have a scheduled flight with no passengers. If you have a charter, this is not considered a regular passenger flight, and you can bring Cargo Aircraft Only materials on the plane with you.
Passenger or Cargo Aircraft – These packages can travel on a passenger flight.
Specification Box – A box whose design has been tested by the manufacturer according to DOT criteria. There are two types: The first has been tested specifically with the inner container being used. The other type is approved for any inner container, but there are additional requirements for absorbent material in case the inner containers leak. Wright Air Service can provide specification boxes for F-cans as well as ‘variation’ specification boxes.
Exception Box – These are not specification. They must be strong enough to contain the contents under normal transportation conditions.
White Gas (or Alcohol)
When filled with less than 16.9 ounces, these can be transported in an exception box. A box may contain any number of these smaller bottles as long as the overall weight is less than 66 pounds. Such packages are Passenger or Cargo Aircraft.
When filled with more than 16.9 ounces, these require a specification box. The box we have for this is expensive and awkward, and hold up to four 32oz-max bottles. These packages are Passenger or Cargo Aircraft.

White Gas (or Alcohol)

We can provide a specification box for cans like these. It can
be 1 gallon or smaller. It must be rectangular.
They can be carried on a Passenger or Cargo Aircraft.
Coleman Propane
These can travel on a Passenger or Cargo Aircraft when packaged two per box. A case of these is Cargo Aircraft Only.
These need to be packaged in exception boxes.

Iso-Butane – Allowed
These are transported under a special permit. Under the terms of the permit, these are Cargo Aircraft Only.
The three brands shown here can be carried on a Cargo Aircraft Only.
They must be packaged in an exception box.
Other brands are completely forbidden for air transport.

Iso-Butane – Not Allowed
Old Jet Boil cylinders and these other brands are forbidden for any air transport.
